ECU remapping
More power, torque and economy from your engine. OBD remapping from £229 including VAT.
What is remapping?
Remapping, sometimes called chipping, means adjusting the software on your car's engine control unit (ECU) to overwrite its factory settings.
How it works
The ECU is a small computer that controls how the engine runs. On cars made before 2000 the chip had to be removed and replaced. On modern cars we connect a laptop to the car's diagnostic (OBD) port.
Manufacturers set the ECU conservatively so one engine suits every market, climate, fuel standard and emissions rule. It also lets them release a more powerful version later without redesigning the engine.
Fine-tuning settings such as ignition timing, air/fuel ratio and turbo boost pressure can raise power and torque by as much as 35 per cent.
The benefits
- Better fuel economy. Driven gently, a remapped engine can return more miles per gallon.
- Better driveability. Sharper throttle response and more torque make overtaking easier and the car smoother to drive.
- Easier towing. Extra power means the engine works less hard pulling a trailer or caravan up hills.
Before we tune
Every car gets a diagnostic health check first. If we find faults, we'll tell you, and we may recommend fixing them before tuning. Please remember to tell your insurer about the remap.
ECU tuning terms and conditions
Diagnostic Connections Limited T/A DC Tuning and/or any Authorised DC Tuning Agent shall provide vehicle tuning services requested by the client from the following options, all of which are bound by our customer care and commitment to service quality.
The tuning files that we install will never change. When we complete our tuning service your vehicle will continue to perform at the same capacity it did on arrival or show improvements from our tuning files. We are confident that the tuning services provided are based on the optimal settings most suitable for your vehicle and should produce noticeable benefits. If an issue arises with your vehicle after our work, it will most likely be due to a mechanical fault, not a fault with the tuning file itself. Once the mechanical fault is fixed your vehicle should return to its optimum performance.
All vehicles presented to DC Tuning and/or any Authorised DC Tuning Agent will be deemed fit upon presentation and it is not the responsibility of DC Tuning and/or any Authorised DC Tuning Agent to prove this. It is the customer's responsibility to ensure that the vehicle is up to date with servicing and all mechanical and non-mechanical parts as per the manufacturer's schedules. Any unforeseen damage that may occur during or after the tuning process is not covered or guaranteed by DC Tuning and/or any Authorised DC Tuning Agent. DC Tuning and/or any Authorised DC Tuning Agent will advise the customer of any faults that become apparent during or after the tuning process. We will not accept any liability from the date that the tuning process was carried out. If you have carried out any modifications to your vehicle and it subsequently develops a fault, we will not accept liability for any of those parts before, during or after any tuning process.
A vehicle diagnostic health check showing any fault codes will be carried out before any tuning work is undertaken, and we reserve the right to refuse any vehicle that we believe is not healthy enough. No warranty is given or implied for any components on your vehicle before or after the tuning process, apart from the tuning file itself. Refunds are not accepted except as set out below. DC Tuning and/or any Authorised DC Tuning Agent does not accept liability for any mechanical part failure after performance tuning. By using our service, you agree to these terms and conditions.
Vehicle components can fail on a standard vehicle just as they can on a tuned one. Tuning will often show up weak points in your vehicle, as you are asking it to work harder than it is used to. Regular servicing with good quality oil and parts, good quality fuel and mechanical sympathy all help to keep your engine running well. If your car needs mechanical attention, get this work done before considering a tuning file.
DC Tuning and/or any Authorised DC Tuning Agent does not cover liability for any mechanical or electrical parts, including turbos, injectors, clutches, gearboxes, DPFs and boost leaks (boost pipes), as these have a serviceable lifetime and the tune places higher demands on them, which may cause issues if they are not in good health. If Economy, Stage 1, Stage 2 or Stage 3 tunes are beyond the recommended tolerances of your engine, DC Tuning and/or any Authorised DC Tuning Agent will not accept any liability for the tuned files. We work alongside external file writers who hold the liability for any mistake in the modified files, and we work closely with them to rectify any tuning file issues immediately.
The client must accept that:
- All power and torque gains from the ECU tune are approximate, as are the manufacturer's quoted power and torque figures for your engine.
- Fuel efficiency after a modified tune will depend on a number of factors, including but not limited to outside temperature, driving style, tyre pressures and regular, correct servicing of the vehicle.
- DC Tuning and/or any Authorised DC Tuning Agent are not liable for the cost of fixing faults, whether found or pending, identified during the diagnostic health check before or after tuning.
- It is the client's responsibility to inform their insurance company of the car's ECU tune.
By installing this product and/or service, you understand that as a high-performance product and/or service, individual results may vary depending on make, model and usage. DC Tuning and/or any Authorised DC Tuning Agent shall in no way be held responsible or liable for any results, claimed or otherwise, that may or may not come from this product and/or service.
You also agree that the original vehicle manufacturer makes its own determinations regarding the effects of add-on products and/or services on its warranties. DC Tuning and/or any Authorised DC Tuning Agent shall in no way be held responsible or liable for anything pertaining to or resulting from the original vehicle manufacturer's warranty and/or terms of use.
We always offer to take clients for a test drive in their vehicle after our service, so they can assess the extra performance from the modified tuning file. As part of the test drive, we aim to make sure your vehicle has responded well to the modified file and that the new settings have not caused any faults.
- If you notice any faults with your vehicle after the service has been completed, please contact us straight away. We will give you any advice we can to help resolve the problem, and we may ask you to bring the vehicle back to us for diagnostics or to rework the modified files if we feel this is needed.
- We may ask to have your vehicle diagnosed by a third party to independently verify any issues. If so, these additional fees will not be covered by us.
- If your vehicle is diagnosed as faulty, we can reinstate its original tuning file. No refunds will be given for this. We can reinstall the modified tuning file once the vehicle is fixed; we may charge for this depending on the time required, although in most cases we are happy to do it at no extra charge.
Refunds
DC Tuning and/or any Authorised DC Tuning Agent aims to give 100% customer satisfaction, but we appreciate that this is not always possible. Refunds are only given on the following conditions:
- If you are not happy and your vehicle is returned to us within 7 days of the modified tuning file being installed, we will remove the tuned file, replace it with the vehicle's original stock file and refund you in full. This does not apply to vehicles whose ECU has since been removed by anyone other than DC Tuning and/or an Authorised DC Tuning Agent, for tuning or any other modification.
- If you return your vehicle after 7 days and up to 30 days, there will be a charge of 50% of the original cost to reinstate the original stock file. No refunds will be given after 30 days.
- If you return the vehicle because it has developed a fault after tuning and the fault is not directly related to the work we carried out, you will not be entitled to a refund.
